This is the Study Release of Recollect, a scientific research initiative.
Recollect is a working memory training game developed by the University of California Riverside (UCR) Brain Game Center for Mental Fitness and Well-being. This research unit specializes in brain fitness techniques and applications. As our third installment of memory training games, Recollect builds upon empirical data from its predecessors. It retains the effective framework of past versions while introducing additional cognitive challenges and features aimed at extending the program's effectiveness into a side-scrolling platformer.
Designed for individuals of all ages interested in engaging and efficient brain training, Recollect draws on over a decade of cognitive and neuroscience research. The game incorporates scientifically validated versions of N-Back, Item Span, and Multiple-Identity tracking tasks. These tasks have been demonstrated independently to enhance working memory in a way that transfers to unrelated activities.
Recollect represents the outcome of a comprehensive research endeavor addressing questions concerning working memory enhancement, brain plasticity, and challenges related to attention and reinforcement strategies within cognitive training programs. Players are immersed in a gaming environment where they engage in various cognitive tasks to progress to new levels and unlock advanced features. Our cognitive exercises are interlinked within a reward system that encourages user commitment to the program, ensuring sustained training efficacy.
The storyline unfolds in a multi-world universe where players assume the role of astronaut Lerner, assigned with gathering resources for the last human space colony. To sustain the colony and maintain its technology, players must explore planets to collect essential plants and minerals. This task is complicated by specific sequences required for resource collection to prevent rapid deterioration, as well as hazardous materials and obstacles on the planets. The challenge is for players to help Lerner navigate the treacherous terrain by utilizing her memory skills to securely gather resources. The future of humanity rests on your abilities!
